James Hetfield was born in Downey, California, the United States of America. His father is Virgil Lee Hetfield, and he worked as a truck driver. His mother’s name is Cynthia Bassett is a singer of light opera. James has two older half-brothers from his previous marriage, and he has one younger sister. 

He spent his early life in his birthplace Downey along with his parents and siblings. James’s parents divorced when he was only 13 years old in 1976, and he moved with his mother and lived with his half-siblings. James Hetfield was born in Downey, California, on August 3, 1963, to Virgil Lee Hetfield and Cynthia Bassett. His full name is James Alan Hetfield, and he is 59 years old as of 2022. James’s mother died of cancer when he was only 16 years old, and later, he moved with his older half-brother David and lived with him.

James started to work with local bands like Leather Charm, Obsessions Aerosmith, and many other bands during her beginning career. Then James found an ad posted by Lars Ulrich, a drummer, and in 1981, James and Lars joined together and formed a heavy metal band called Metallica. Then bassist Cliff Burton and guitarist Dave Mustaine joined the band, and in 1983, the band replaced Kirk Hammett as a lead guitarist, and the band moved to Los Angeles.

The band initially faced many rejections and failures, so they decided to launch their label. In 1983, the band released their first album named Kill’ Em All’ and their second album was released in 1984 named Ride the Lightning.

James and band members released their third album, named Master of Puppets, in 1985, which gained more popularity for the band, and the album was certified gold. James first acted in the documentary film A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica in 1992; then, in 2004, he acted in Metallica: Some Kind of Monster. Furthermore, James has given his voice to the characters in the television series Dave the Barbarian, The Simpsons, American Dad!, Skylanders Academy, and many others. In addition, James acted in television series like Space Ghost Coast to Coast, Billions, and The Hunt.
